Position Overview
The Benefits Data & Audit Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of client benefit data after open enrollment periods. This role involves processing insurance elections and changes, maintaining up-to-date records in carrier portals, and conducting thorough audits to confirm accurate billing and enrollment. The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
Post-Enrollment Processing
- Add, terminate, and update employee benefit elections in carrier portals after open enrollment.
- Process mid-year benefit changes, including new hires, qualifying life events, and coverage terminations.
- Verify that all updates are reflected accurately in carrier systems.
- Pull and review carrier invoices to ensure all enrolled employees are billed correctly.
- Cross-reference carrier invoices against client enrollment records to confirm coverage accuracy.
- Identify discrepancies such as missing enrollees, incorrect coverage levels, or unprocessed terminations.
- Document and resolve audit findings by coordinating with carriers and internal team members.
- Utilize Excel to merge, filter, and cross-reference large data sets for audit purposes.
- Maintain clear documentation of all changes, corrections, and communications related to benefit updates.
- Assist in generating periodic reports for internal review and client updates.
- Experience: 1–3 years in benefits administration, HR, payroll, or insurance carrier operations preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data merging).
- Familiarity with online carrier portals and benefits administration systems.
- Core Skills:
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
