Payroll Tax Accountant

The Payroll Tax Accountant is a critical member of the finance team responsible for managing all aspects of payroll tax compliance and reporting. This role requires a thorough understanding of payroll tax regulations, strong analytical skills, and a high level of attention to detail. The Payroll Tax Accountant will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax processing, reporting, and reconciliation.

What Does the Payroll Tax Accountant Do?

Payroll Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations. Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure accurate withholding, reporting, and remittance of payroll taxes.

Tax Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and timely payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual state tax returns. Reconcile tax filings to payroll data and resolve discrepancies.

Audits and Reconciliations: Assist with internal and external payroll tax audits. Perform regular reconciliations of payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

System Maintenance: Collaborate with payroll and HR teams to ensure payroll systems are accurately set up for tax purposes. Review and update employee tax withholding information as needed.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and automate payroll tax processes. Implement improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax compliance and reporting.

Communication: Respond to inquiries from government agencies, employees, and internal stakeholders regarding payroll tax matters. Communicate changes in tax regulations and policies to relevant teams.

Research and Analysis: Stay updated on changes in payroll tax laws and regulations. Analyze impact and recommend adjustments to ensure compliance.

Training and Support: Provide training and guidance to payroll and HR teams on payroll tax-related matters. Assist with resolving employee inquiries related to payroll taxes.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized records of payroll tax filings, correspondence, and compliance documentation.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience.
• Experience with MasterTax and Prism software strongly preferred.
